Trooper Robert Smith was killed in 1997 when his patrol car was struck from behind by a drunk driver. He had just finished a traffic stop on I-95 and was doing paperwork when the crash occurred.
Trooper Smith had served with the Florida Highway Patrol for five years. Between 1985 and 1989 Trooper Smith was a pitcher for the Minnesota Twins. In each of the previous four years he had made over 100 DUI arrests.
Trooper Robert (Robbie) Smith was a loyal friend and wonderful husband. As his wife, I was determined to form a Foundation in Robbie’s honor and a Legacy for or wonderful children Taylor & Todd! I never gave up and now, many years later, we have the Trooper Robert Glenn Smith Foundation (TRGS).
