During Spring Break 2014, Christ Fellowship (Miami) is having a mission trip for high school students to go to Haiti.
My Why:
God has given a heart for service, and I believe that helping others is a need not a want! I truly enjoy making people smile, to me it’s the best gift a person can give.
Acts 20:35
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
When I was a kid, I lived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I saw many things, when i would go to school every morning I saw children, elderly people, adults, with ripped clothes, tears, dirty faces, or even no clothes, asking for money, food, a drink, anything someone would spare for them, some people would just go right next to them, they’d be ignored, others would stop and stare, and then there was the more caring part of the crowd, the one’s that would stop.. but actually give those less fortunate people something, either money, a piece of what they were eating, or simply tell them to wait, and go to buy them something. Without expecting anything in return. I became more involved, I would go to orphanages and volunteer, it touched my heart to see all those children, and before i knew it, those children became almost like family, I’d go and spend time with them as much as I possibly could, not for pity, but because I enjoyed it, spending just an hour in one weekend, would change the way I’d think, and it was amazing, they’d make my week, show me that you don’t need alot to be happy, that there’s so much more beyond having material things, there is love, friendship, happiness, and it was all a great experience for me and my family, I realized that in life I wanted to be something that would benefit others, make them smile, because I believe that making someone smile is the best reward or gift I could get.
I’d like to go on this mission trip to Haiti, because I know i could change people’s lifes, and do something productive for somebody which can make them live better, safer, make them smile. Give those people in need, hope. Hope in Jesus, hope in society, hope in our world, that there is still people who care, who would like to see them happy and that Jesus is the way, share the Gospel with them, and make them believe that with Faith, life is possible no matter the conditions.
Philippians 2:1-11
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus…
