Unbroken: Path Redemption | Trailer | In Theaters September 14
Review: The story of Louis Zamperini is an incredible one to say the least. I was moved a few years ago when I listened to Louis story on the radio one morning. So when Unbroken came out in theaters in 2014, my husband and I had a date night. We walked into a completely filled theater on its release night. Such a fascinating true story of what Louis endured after his WWII plane crashed in the Pacific, he floated at sea for 47 days before being captured and ruthlessly tortured by the Japanese. He survived unimaginable atrocities and starvation, finally making it home to his family after the war.
Upon Louis return he suffered from severe PTSD, struggled with finding a job and alcohol dependency to get through his daily inner struggles. He toured as a War Hero till his alcohol use interfered with his public appearances. He is sent to Miami to vacation, this is where he meets Cynthia Applewhite, the romance blossoms rather quickly in the film and the couple marry and have a child. Through this period the marriage suffers as Louis can no longer manage his night terrors and alcoholism. Cynthia asks her husband to attend an evangelical revival by the young Billy Graham in 1949 Los Angeles.
Louis an adamant non believer, attends the crusade but walks out his first evening. He returns the following evening and recommits his life to God after hearing a sermon preached by the late Billy Graham, he wanted the opportunity of a new life with Jesus. This film is a testament to how many have turned their problems to the Lord and have found ways to forgive those they thought were unforgivable finding peace within!
